Although it was predicted months ago, Adele’s album “21″ and her “Rolling in the Deep” single finish 2011 as the United States’ top-selling album and song, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Her hit album sold 5.82 million copies all of 2011, while “Rolling” moved 5.81 million downloads.
TOP FIVE SELLERS IN 2011
Albums:
1. Adele, “21″ (5.82 million)
2. Michael Buble, “Christmas” (2.45 million)
3. Lady Gaga, “Born This Way” (2.1 million)
4. Lil Wayne, “Tha Carter IV” (1.92 million)
5. Jason Aldean, “My Kinda Party” (1.58 million)
Digital Songs:

Overall digital song sales grew 8.5% in 2011 as sales increased to a record 1.27 billion downloads last year, compared with 2010′s then-record 1.17 billion.
Zooey Deschanel Writes Disney’s “Pooh” Song
January 2, 2012 by iMusicDaily

Actress, singer and songwriter Zooey Deschanel was drafted to write the song for Disney’s new “Winnie the Pooh” movie.
Writing a song for a “Winnie the Pooh” movie is a daunting task, because it requires a songwriter to follow in the footsteps of Richard and Robert Sherman, who penned the well-known “Pooh” theme song and also wrote “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “It’s a Small World” and “I Wan’na Be Like You,” among many others.
“The tradition of music in Disney animated films is pretty spectacular. But I tried not to think about it, because I might be overwhelmed if I did,” said Deschanel.
Her initial task, after all, was to record a new version of the Sherman brothers’ theme song. When that went well, she was asked to write and record an end-credits song, which turned out to be “So Long,” one of the film’s two Oscar entries. And after that, she was asked to contribute vocals to other songs in the film … all while finishing a tour with her band, She and Him, and getting ready to begin filming her new TV series, “The New Girl.”
“It kind of happened in little bits and pieces over the course of the year,” Deschanel said.
“That’s the thing with music for me. Songwriting was always something that I did in my private time as a release, very much on my own. It didn’t come out into the world until later in my life. But now, as my schedule has gotten so weird and so busy, I feel like I need to keep going back to it.”
Deschanel first got involved with “Winnie the Pooh” when music supervisor Tom McDougall showed her a 10-minute segment that had been cut to a She and Him song, and asked if she’d record the title song. She enlisted bandmate Matt Ward (who goes by M. Ward) to produce, and settled on an approach to a song whose original version was recorded by a large chorus of anonymous singers.
“I think there was something that Matt and I saw in that song that we could pull out, that wasn’t really focused on in the original recording,” she said. “That was the warmth and the intimacy of the song.
We wanted it to feel very warm and sweet. I felt like it should welcome people into the story.”
Adele on Top of Rolling Stone’s Album and Single List

Rolling Stone magazine named Adele’s album “21″ and single “Rolling In The Deep” the best of 2011.
Adele recently received six Grammy nominations and was chosen by Rolling Stone editors for her multi-platinum selling sophomore album, which was officially the U.K’s best selling album of the 21st century and 2011′s best-selling album in the United States.
” ’21′ was this year’s most stunning pop success, transmuting the young Brit’s personal sorrow — the collapse of an 18-month relationship — into a 13-million-selling smash that leapt across borders and oceans and united everyone from teeny-boppers to baby boomers to hip-hop-heads,” said Rolling Stone editors.
Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Watch The Throne,” came second on the album list, followed by Paul Simon’s “So Beautiful or So What” at No. 3, Fleet Foxes “Helplessness Blues” at No. 4 and Radiohead’s eighth studio album “The King of Limbs” rounding out the top five.
Adele’s song “Rolling In The Deep,” was named the best single of 2011 by the magazine, as editors described it as the “breakup scorcher to beat all breakup scorchers.”
Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Ni**as in Paris” clocked in at No. 2, while Britney Spears’ “‘Til The World Ends” made No. 3 on the list, Foo Fighters’ “These Days” at No. 4 and Paul Simon’s “Rewrite” at No. 5.
The full list will be available on newsstands and online on December 9.
New Details On Kelly Clarkson’s Upcoming Album

Songwriter Claude Kelly, who worked with Kelly Clarkson on ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’, has teamed up with original American Idol and is dishing new details on Clarkson’s upcoming album release in September.
“I will say that I’d be willing to bet that the reason it was pushed back was not for anything as horrible or earth-shattering as people think — it’s probably [just] a better setup.”
Describing the current pop scene as “congested,” Claude Kelly thinks that a slightly delayed release will work in Clarkson’s favor. “They want to make sure that the arena is clean for Kelly Clarkson’s return, ’cause when she comes back, she always comes back pretty big,” he said. “They want to make sure when her first single comes out, there’s nothing out there that’s competing with it. I don’t know for sure, but Kelly always does it big, so when it comes out, the fans will be happy and she’ll sing her butt off and it’ll be good times.”
“The songs I did write for her were in true Kelly Clarkson form, singer records that showcase her voice, but also show her edge and her attitude and her personality,” he explained. “[It's] always up-tempo for me when it comes to Kelly. I like to hear her in kick-butt mode. She has an edge to her voice that you want to hear her sing high and get in your face.”

Tricky Stewart Dishes On Christina Aguilera’s New Album

Producer Tricky Stewart recently shared some inside information with Vibe magazine on what it’s been like working with Christina Aguilera on her upcoming album.
When asked about his approach to working with the superstar, Tricky says, “With Christina it’s a little different, because Christina wants music that you haven’t heard before. She did things that she’s never necessarily heard on the radio. She doesn’t want a record that sounds like anything else so you’re trying to create an entirely new sound for an artist. The three tracks that I did, they’re all uptempo tracks so we definitely kind of get the club moving but it’s just a matter of her doing different styles and using her voice in different ways.”
In addition to Tricky Stewart, Aguilera has reportedly been working with Sia, Le Tigre, Flo-Rida, Diplo & Switch, Linda Perry, Claude Kelly, Santigold, M.I.A, and many more.
Are you excited for Christina’s new album?
