The posthumous album from late singer Amy Winehouse, entitled, “Lioness: Hidden Treasures” was on it’s way to be on top of the British album charts by the end of the week, the Official Charts Company said on Tuesday.
The album is made up of a collection of 12 tracks recorded from as early as 2002 but not used on either of Winehouse’s studio albums and is receiving mixed reviews.
In a brief statement, the OCC said the album had already sold nearly 70,000 copies.
Winehouse’s father Mitch, writing on Twitter, claimed the number was 140,000, although it was not clear whether that was projected sales for the whole week or reflected more accurate, current information.
“Just been told. Amy at number 1. 140,000 sold = £140,000 to foundation in one day. Well done baby,” he tweeted. “My heart is sad but bursting with pride. Mitch”
Winehouse died in July aged 27, ending a promising career that often was riddled with a highly publicized battle with drug addiction.
Her father Mitch has set up a charity in her name set to assist children and young adults suffering ill health and addiction, and for every copy of the album sold, one pound goes to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

Country singer Tim McGraw is now free to sign with a new record label or record for his own company, releasing him from Curb Records.
After a long court battle, Davidson County Chancery Court Chancellor Russell Perkins ruled in favor of McGraw over the unreleased album “Emotional Traffic” that the singer completed but which the record label believed was not ready for release.
McGraw, a Grammy winning artist whose hits include “Live Like You Were Dying,” and “Something Like That,” signed with Curb Records in the early 1990s and has never recorded for another label.
Wednesday’s ruling means McGraw can now move forward with his recording career, and another hearing was set for July 2012 on the damages portion of the lawsuit.
Ironically, Curb released a new McGraw single on Wednesday from “Emotional Traffic” called “Better Than I Used To Be,” saying it is the first new music from the singer in 11 months.
McGraw’s prior single, “Felt Good On My Lips,” was a three-week No. 1 hit, and originally turned in as part of the “Emotional Traffic” album. However, the song, was released as part of a “Number One Hits” package.

Christina Aquilera’s fourth album is gearing up to be an amazing one. With all of the lackluster albums that have been released lately, here’s hoping Xtina’s packing the punch with this new one.
Aguilera’s rep confirmed to US Weekly that her new album will be out in the Spring of 2010.
The Bravery’s Sam Endicott has written a track called ‘Monday Morning’ for Aguilera, which is being produced by Switch. Endicott recently worked with Shakira, M.I.A, and Santigold.
And don’t forget that soon we’ll be able to catch Christina on the big screen when she co-stars in Burlesque with Cher.

After serving only seven months of his one-year sentence for a felony weapons conviction, T.I. was released from a federal prison yesterday.
According to E! News, Steve Shadow, T.I.’s attorney, says that the rapper will report to a halfway house in Atlanta for the remainder of his sentence.
“[A halfway house] is not unusual in the least; it happens across the board as long as the inmates are eligible,” Sadow said, noting that T.I. also got credit for time served in home detention. “They decided that three months in a halfway house would assist him with reentering society.”
At least T.I won’t be spending the holidays behind bars. I wonder if they put up a christmas tree in the halfway house.
