Popstars The Jonas Brothers are gearing up for a new album. This week, Kevin tweeted out some footage of Joe and Nick in the studio recording.

While there’s no certainty that the teased track will make their next studio release, the song certainly does blend the guys’ love for mixing genres, touching on soul, rock and disco.

Although the brothers have individually created albums, there hasn’t been a proper Jonas Brothers album since 2009, when they released Lines, Vines and Trying Times. The guys are well aware that the music scene is vastly different three years later.

“We pay attention to it, definitely,” Nick said. “That’s part of your job as an artist, too, is to be aware of what other people are doing. … We pay attention and have been paying attention just to see where we want to fall. But first we just want to write great songs, and as far as how it sounds, that’ll come second.”

There has yet to be a release date for the album, but the Jonas Brothers have teased that it may drop before the end of the year. The hashtag #JonasBrothers2012 attached to the studio video may be the best hint so far.

“We don’t know how long it’s going to take us to write this record,” Nick warned. “It may take a couple weeks, it may take months, it could take years, but we’re ready to go on that journey. It’s been a while and there has been a lot of growth as individuals and musically as well. We’ve all gone on our journeys musically. It’ll be interesting to see what comes of that.”

One of Aaliyah’s producers on her last studio album, Jeffery “J.Dub” Walker, has tweeted that an album composed entirely of previously unreleased material is in the works. Walker’s tweet has since been taken down, but Soul Culture managed to take a screen grab before it was pulled.

“Just got great news today; the smash unreleased song called ‘Steady Ground’ I produced on #Aaliyah is gonna be on her upcoming album,” Walker’s tweet read.

Walker previously revealed to YouKnowIGotSoul.com that “Steady Ground” was intended to be included on Aaliyah but was left off due to technical problems with the recording. “It was really the first single after ‘Rock the Boat,’ but my engineer was mixing the record and somehow lost the vocals. So the vocals that you hear are really just the demo vocals,” Walker told the site. “The final vocals got erased, so yeah. So that’s why it didn’t make the album.”

A compilation album, I Care for You, was released in 2002. It featured some new material as well as many of Aaliyah’s biggest hits, including “Are You That Somebody,” “One in a Million” and “Try Again.”

According to Idolator, Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton, tweeted Tuesday (March 6) that “no official album [is] being released and supported by the Haughton family,” but he did not deny that her label and producers were working on the project.

Davy Jones, a member of the 1960s made-for-television pop band The Monkees, died on Wednesday after suffering a heart attack near his home in Florida, according to his longtime publicist. He was 66.

Jones was stricken while attending to horses he kept in Indiantown, Florida, about halfway between the Atlantic coast and Lake Okeechobee, spokeswoman Helen Kensick said, but she had no further details. Jones had lived with his third wife, Jessica Pacheco-Jones, in Hollywood, Florida, in recent years, she said.

Born in Manchester, England, Jones was the lone British member and principal teen idol of the rock quartet featured for two seasons on the NBC comedy series “The Monkees.” The prime-time hit was inspired in part by the Beatles film “A Hard Day’s Night” and ran from the fall of 1966 to August 1968.

In addition to his wife, Jones is survived for four daughters from two previous marriages.

The festival announced the show on its website. A ticket drawing will determine who’s admitted into the “intimate” venue.

Back in December, Springsteen was added to the lineup as a keynote speaker, scheduled to take the stage on the 15th — the same day as his concert — at the Austin Convention Center.

Springsteen’s latest album, “Wrecking Ball,” will be released March 6. Along with E Street, he’ll head out on a world tour beginning March 18 in Atlanta.

After John Mayer announced he needed vocal surgery last fall, he’s now back and ready to tour again.

On Monday (February 27), the singer/songwriter announced plans for a spring tour, his first outing in nearly two years. The 18-date trek will kick off April 9 in Bloomington, Indiana, before wrapping up May 6 in Phoenix. The tour will promote his new album, Born and Raised, which will be released sometime around the beginning of the tour. The album’s lead single, “Shadow Days,” hits radio Monday.

The tour will help raise funds and awareness for the Northern California Institute of Research and Education, which “provides veterans with a healthy reintegration into civilian life.” Mayer will auction off tickets to the shows to help raise money for the organization.

Previously, Mayer described the album as having “organic cowboy guitar sounds,” adding that he had this very romantic thought when it came to the album’s vibe: “What would it sound like if I wrote an album of cowboy songs on this guitar under the stars?”

“Every new record I start, a new aesthetic comes in. I can’t help it,” he said about the project. “I think it’s gonna be more organic, more natural lyrics and chords and artful simplicity.”

Lil Wayne’s fashion sense is expanding to shoes. Weezy will hone his fashion expertise and design a signature brand of kicks.

“It’s not a Nike or Reebok, I can tell you that much,” Wayne told VIBE about the shoe.

The rapper is stepping into role of fashion designer. His Trukfit brand has already took the streetwear market by storm, and now Young Money will branch out from the already established brand with a new famed company.

“I do have a shoe coming out soon but it won’t be Trukfit. I have a shoe with a well-known company. I just don’t want to say yet because I haven’t dotted the line yet,” he said. “But it’s done.”
