This week’s theme was songs from movies and it turned out to be a really boring night. Too many ballads in a row put me to sleep, but a few people definitely stood out.

Allison – Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing – Great Song to begin with, but, for the first time, I was disappointed with her. It sounded a little too low for her for most of the song and it seemed like she just didn’t really care tonight. Could have been so much better.

Anoop – Everything I do, I do it for you – The only time I like Anoop is when he sings ballads and tonight he actually did an incredible job. I thought he might be the one to go home this week, but he may have just saved himself.

Adam – Born To Be Wild – well he’s obviously going to be screaming again tonight with this song. Solid performance. Tarantino loves him. I wonder if he’ll scream again next week.

Matt – To Love A Woman – Not really a song for American Idol. His voice is good, but I was bored. Next!

Danny – Endless Love – Boring. I’m officially over Danny tonight. Did anyone else here that really wrong note during the first verse?? His voice is so old fashioned…of course Paula would like it. Cougars love Danny.

Kris – Falling Slowly – He played his cards right again tonight. This guy’s a genius when it comes to this competition. Amazing performance tonight. Randy doesn’t have a clue about what’s good. R&B isn’t the only kind of music.

Lil – The Rose – Nice extensions. Good look for her tonight. Sadly, it’s time for her to go. I can’t believe she survived this long. What happened to the Lil Rounds we all met in the beginning. Maybe it was just the hype the show created that made us think she was great.

AMERICAN IDOL RECAP – MOTOWN NIGHT

So tonight it was Motown night for the top 10 on American Idol.

First up, Matt, who chose to sing ‘Let’s Get It On’. The video intro set him up for a great performance and he did well. He started off at the piano and, personally, I wish he had stayed there because I felt his voice was stronger there and he was more visibly more comfortable. He is an incredible talent and this weeks theme is right up his alley.

Kris – ‘How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) – He is defining himself more and more every week and I still believe that he knows exactly what he’s doing in this competition. He put his own spin on a classic and the judges loved it. What’s not to love about this guy…He’s got the looks, the voice, and the talent to go far.

Scott – ‘Can’t Hurry Love’ – I wasn’t sure what to think after his video intro. My initial reaction was bad song choice. I didn’t like how he started the song at all. He looked really uncomfortable throughout the performance. It was almost like he was concentrating on the next line the whole time. Simon was right on this one. Scott’s song choices are very wrong and he is not standing out. He could be going home this week.

Megan – ‘For Once In My Life’ – I could have sworn she would sing ‘Baby Love’, but I guess not. She started the song by shouting and I was really disappointed. She has so much potential. She truly has the most unique voice of any contestant, but she over-sang every line of the song tonight. It was definitely the wrong choice. I wish the judges had a say in the song choices. I’m tired of listening to awful performances and the same judge’s comments week after week. Wouldn’t it be great to be blown away be every performance and have a tight competition? I think so.

Anoop – ‘Oh Baby Baby’ – He did a great job. I’m almost able to take him seriously after his last 2 performances. He’s definitely stepping up to the plate and showing up that he’s got what it takes. It’s time for him to sell it to us, though. He looks a bit bored during his performances. He’s really improving in this competition and I bet he’ll bring something new to the game next week.

Michael – ‘Ain’t To Proud To Beg’ – He needs to go home. I completely agree with the judges. I don’t have a clue what kind of artist Michael is. The only place I could see him is in the country music, but I question how successful he would be. He doesn’t captivate me when I watch him and his performances are completely forgettable.

Lil – ‘Heatwave’ – This was the week for her to shine above the rest, but she fell short. From the look to the vocals, there was nothing authentic about her performance tonight. No one can deny that she is an incredible singer, but she needs to define herself as a current artist in 2009.

Adam – ‘Tracks Of My Tears’ – What was up with his hair? It was so nice to hear a softer side of his voice on this song. He’s unbelievably talented and tonight he proved it once again. The performance was much more sedated than we’re used to from him, but he nailed it. The standing ovation was well deserved. Kara needs to learn to count….she said she had 6 words for Adam, but she gave 8.

Danny – ‘Get Ready’ – Michael McDonald Jr. bounces a little too much for me. He’s a solid performer and I liked the added choreography with the back-up singers, but I’m not really into him as a potential American Idol.

Allison – ‘Papa Was A Rolling Stone’ – Who the hell was she in a past life because there’s no way there’s a 16 year old soul in her. She was INCREDIBLE tonight! The judges were on their feet long before the song was over. Hot Hot Hot!

Last night’s show was disappointing, to say the least. Seems the contestants this year just can’t pick the right songs. Who’s guiding these people?

I was really looking forward to seeing Kristen McNamara’s performance, but ‘Give Me One Reason’ was her song choice…really??? Are you kidding me? WHY?! She’s so much more talented than that. I’m not saying that Tracy Chapman isn’t talented, but Kristen’s voice is capable of so much more and that song said NOTHING about her. I hope her voice is good enough to get her though, but after that song, I don’t know.

Nathaniel Marshall got way too much attention last night. The guy can sing, but did he really deserve that much time on screen last night? And I didn’t really like his song choice. He did a good job making it his own, but if he’s really all about having fun and making a fun record, then he should choose something more along those lines. Not Meatloaf.

Lil Rounds is incredible. BUT, I didn’t like her song choice either. I remember it was a Mary J. Blige song, but I can’t remember which one. There were moments that she sounded just like Mary J, but then there were moments when she fell short. For her first live performance on television, I would have liked it to have been more memorable. She’s definitely going through to the next round.

Kendall Beard was somewhat memorable. She’s got a great lower range, but her upper range definitely needs some work. Once she hit the chorus, her performance went downhill.

And now to Felicia Barton, the replacement for Joanna Pacitti who was disqualified from the competition. There’s something fishy about her and I can’t seem to get her off of my mind. Did anyone else notice the COMPLETE makeover that she’s had? She looks incredible compared to the first audition and Hollywood rounds. Every season, the top 12 contestants get a makeover and that’s when we start to see them as potential pop stars, but we’re still in the top 36 round and no one else seems to have had as drastic of a makeover as Felicia. And, most notable to me, was her new set of teeth. Veneers are not cheap and it appears as though she’s just recently had them done sometime after the Hollywood Week round. Did she do this all on her own? Or is Idol behind her new look? There’s no denying that she can sing and her new look made me like her even more last night. She definitely stood out from the crowd when she took the stage. I will be surprised if she doesn’t go through tonight. And, yes, Paula, it is funny how the universe works…and a little help doesn’t hurt.
