Kylie Minogue Makes History With New Album ‘Aphrodite’

International Pop Icon Kylie Minogue returns to the Billboard 200 this week as her 11th studio album Aphrodite (EMI’s Astralwerks Records) debuts at #19, marking her highest U.S. chart position since 2002’s Fever. It is top 10 in such major markets as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, DC, Seattle, Miami, Chicago and Boston. Aphrodite became Kylie’s fifth #1 album in the UK, hitting the top spot a full 22 years to the week since her debut album Kylie entered the chart. The album also made Kylie the first solo artist in the history of the UK charts to have a #1 album in four different decades. Around the globe Aphrodite debuted in the top 10 in thirteen different countries including #1 in Mexico, #2 in Australia, Switzerland and Spain, #3 in Austria, France and Germany and top 5 in Belgium, Holland, Ireland and Taiwan.

A cover of R.E.M.’s 1992 classic “Everybody Hurts,” produced by Simon Cowell and re-recorded to help the victims of last month’s natural disaster in Haiti, is predicted to be a huge hit in the United Kingdom. It has even been said that it will most likely be Britain’s biggest-selling single in 10 years.

Stars that lent their voices to the single, include Kylie Minogue, Leona Lewis, Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, and Susan Boyle.

The track was released on Tuesday, but is expected to go platinum across the pond by the end of the week.

AC/DC Are The Richest Aussie Entertainers

AC/DC are the wealthiest Australians in show business – the rockers have topped a poll of the country’s richest entertainers.

The Back in Black hit-makers, who formed in Sydney in 1973, claimed the number one slot on the 2009 BRW Top 50 Entertainers list with their yearly income of $95 million.

Aussie singer Kylie Minogue retained her place at number two with $42 million yearly earnings, while children’s musical group The Wiggles bumped New Zealand-born actor Russell Crowe into fourth place.

The top five is rounded out by country music star Keith Urban, whose actress wife Nicole Kidman ranked ninth in the poll.
