“American Idol” season six top 10 finisher Chris Sligh is doing fine. He has an album out and is making a living from his music. But he warns the new crop off top ten contestants from season eight that no one will care about them once the tour is over.

“You’re not going to be successful. You’re not going to be millionaires (with the exception of MAYBE Kris [Allen] and Adam [Lambert]),” he writes on his blog.

“You are going to struggle. No one will care about you. Those fans who’ve been asking for your autograph all tour long – 98% of them don’t give a flying poo about you once next season of Idol starts,” he continues.

“They’re not going to buy your album when you put it out 2 years late. Chances are you’ll never feel the rush of playing in front 10,000 people who care about you again. Your star is waning and remarkably quickly,” Sligh adds.

The singer spells out what he thinks pretty clearly. “In other words, your days of being a star are over. But that’s all right – so are mine. And I’m one of the most successful for my season of ‘Idol.’ I’m not a star. Chances are I never again will be.”

Sligh finished 10th in the sixth season, with Jordin Sparks taking home the crown that year.

Kris Allen

Kris Allen’s debut single ‘Live Like We’re Dying’ has been released and it’s sure to be a hit among Allen’s female fan base. As we previously reported, the song was originally recorded by Irish pop-rock band The Script.

Allen’s voice sounds great on the track, which is a little more rock and roll than many expected from him. It’s great to hear this side of him, especially after he was forced to release ‘No Boundaries’ co-written by Kara DioGuardi after winning Idol.

Allen’s album will be released November 17th.

As we previously reported, American Idol’s Kris Allen will be releasing his debut album on November 17th, 2009.

According to Billboard.com, “Allen has been recording his debut album with The Fray’s Joe King, songwriter Claude Kelly (Akon, Leona Lewis), Salaam Remi (Nas, Amy Winehouse) and David Hodges (Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry). Allen also hit the studio in Nashville with singer/songwriter Matt Kearney, and last week he told EW.com of writing sessions with Toby Gad (Beyoncé, Fergie) and Lindy Robbins (Backstreet Boys, Jordin Sparks).”

Sounds like an impressive list of talent for the Idol winner. Allen’s album is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com.

cute

If you’re following American Idol season eight winner Kris Allen on Twitter, you’ve noticed he can get pretty random.

“I fell asleep watching Free Willy…woke up with tears of joy on my pillow,” Kris tweeted yesterday. Just one of many wonderfully random–and possibly dirty–things he’s shared via the micro-blogging website.

But it was his revealing tweet made earlier this week that sent his fans into a frenzy: he shared just when his highly anticipated debut album will be released!

“Hey guys! The album is set to release Nov 17th,” Allen told his fans. Let the countdown begin!

Kris and the rest of the top 13 AI singers are currently out on the road on the Idols Live tour.

AMERICAN IDOL RECAP – MOTOWN NIGHT

March 25, 2009 by Rob Steiner

So tonight it was Motown night for the top 10 on American Idol.

First up, Matt, who chose to sing ‘Let’s Get It On’. The video intro set him up for a great performance and he did well. He started off at the piano and, personally, I wish he had stayed there because I felt his voice was stronger there and he was more visibly more comfortable. He is an incredible talent and this weeks theme is right up his alley.

Kris – ‘How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) – He is defining himself more and more every week and I still believe that he knows exactly what he’s doing in this competition. He put his own spin on a classic and the judges loved it. What’s not to love about this guy…He’s got the looks, the voice, and the talent to go far.

Scott – ‘Can’t Hurry Love’ – I wasn’t sure what to think after his video intro. My initial reaction was bad song choice. I didn’t like how he started the song at all. He looked really uncomfortable throughout the performance. It was almost like he was concentrating on the next line the whole time. Simon was right on this one. Scott’s song choices are very wrong and he is not standing out. He could be going home this week.

Megan – ‘For Once In My Life’ – I could have sworn she would sing ‘Baby Love’, but I guess not. She started the song by shouting and I was really disappointed. She has so much potential. She truly has the most unique voice of any contestant, but she over-sang every line of the song tonight. It was definitely the wrong choice. I wish the judges had a say in the song choices. I’m tired of listening to awful performances and the same judge’s comments week after week. Wouldn’t it be great to be blown away be every performance and have a tight competition? I think so.

Anoop – ‘Oh Baby Baby’ – He did a great job. I’m almost able to take him seriously after his last 2 performances. He’s definitely stepping up to the plate and showing up that he’s got what it takes. It’s time for him to sell it to us, though. He looks a bit bored during his performances. He’s really improving in this competition and I bet he’ll bring something new to the game next week.

Michael – ‘Ain’t To Proud To Beg’ – He needs to go home. I completely agree with the judges. I don’t have a clue what kind of artist Michael is. The only place I could see him is in the country music, but I question how successful he would be. He doesn’t captivate me when I watch him and his performances are completely forgettable.

Lil – ‘Heatwave’ – This was the week for her to shine above the rest, but she fell short. From the look to the vocals, there was nothing authentic about her performance tonight. No one can deny that she is an incredible singer, but she needs to define herself as a current artist in 2009.

Adam – ‘Tracks Of My Tears’ – What was up with his hair? It was so nice to hear a softer side of his voice on this song. He’s unbelievably talented and tonight he proved it once again. The performance was much more sedated than we’re used to from him, but he nailed it. The standing ovation was well deserved. Kara needs to learn to count….she said she had 6 words for Adam, but she gave 8.

Danny – ‘Get Ready’ – Michael McDonald Jr. bounces a little too much for me. He’s a solid performer and I liked the added choreography with the back-up singers, but I’m not really into him as a potential American Idol.

Allison – ‘Papa Was A Rolling Stone’ – Who the hell was she in a past life because there’s no way there’s a 16 year old soul in her. She was INCREDIBLE tonight! The judges were on their feet long before the song was over. Hot Hot Hot!
