Pop music continues to redefine itself with young breakout stars like Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and Demi Lovato, just to name a few. These young stars have risen to the top seemingly over night and fans just can’t seem to get enough of them.

With our eyes on the horizon looking out for tomorrow’s breakout star, we’ve just discovered Ivana, a young pop/rock artist reminiscent of Avril Lavigne. Ivana got her start singing the National Anthem for the Carolina Mudcats and was discovered while competing as a finalist in a nationwide talent serach. At just 16yrs old, Ivana already has her eyes set on Madison Square Garden.

00. Eminem The Recovery Front

Eminem, the Nielsen SoundScan Artist of the Decade for 2000-2009, is already kicking off the new decade with more of the same. His latest album, Recovery (Aftermath Entertainment/Interscope Records), makes its debut atop the charts this week with sales of 741,000 copies; easily outpacing any other release for this year, and setting a bar that no other album has reached for first week sales in almost two years.

The album’s first single, “Not Afraid,” debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May. The song was only the 16th in the 52-year history of the Hot 100 to debut at the top spot, and the first rap song to do so in 13 years. The second single from the album, “Love The Way You Lie” (featuring Rihanna), is already showing tremendous growth at radio, and debuts at #1 on the Singles chart this week, with sales of 337,000.

“It’s been 12 years since Eminem signed to Aftermath and Interscope,” remarked Jimmy Iovine, Chairman, Interscope Geffen A&M Records. “This is a real watershed moment in his career. In my opinion, with this album Eminem’s impact on popular culture, and as a lyricist and writer, puts him on course to be mentioned in the same sentence as Dylan, Springsteen, and Bono.”
Recovery is being hailed as a tour de force for the rapper, receiving a four-star review in the current issue of Rolling Stone, and being described as “his fiercest and most focused work in a long time … a strong return to the form that made him a star in the first place.” (USA Today, 6/21/10)

New Details On Avril Lavigne’s Upcoming Album

Avril Lavigne’s been talking about releasing a new album for a while now. The release date seems to change all of the time and Avril recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight Canada and explained why.

“Some people come up to me and say, ‘Oh you haven’t been around in so long’. It’s like, I’m only 25 now; I plan on doing music the rest of my life”.

“It’s been a really long process. I think because I write my own music, It’s important for me to kind of just live my life to get my inspiration. My previous records were more pop-rock and somewhat aggressive and fun, and this [album] is more like, stripped down and raw. I’m a little excited to put something out that’s a little different, without being too different”.

Lauryn Hill Explains Why She Left Music

Rumors claimed she had a breakdown and went crazy, but Lauryn Hill is putting those rumors to rest and explaining why she left music after the success of her album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

“There were a number of different reasons. But partly, the support system that I needed was not necessarily in place. There were things about myself, personal-growth things, that I had to go through in order to feel like it was worth it. In fact, as musicians and artists, it’s important we have an environment — and I guess when I say environment, I really mean the [music] industry, that really nurtures these gifts. Oftentimes, the machine can overlook the need to take care of the people who produce the sounds that have a lot to do with the health and well-being of society, or at least some aspect of society. And it’s important that people be given the time that they need to go through, to grow, so that the consciousness level of the general public is properly affected. Oftentimes, I think people are forced to make decisions prematurely. And then that sound radiates.”

There was not a dry-eye in the house at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 27, 2010 when Chris Brown took to the BET AWARDS ’10 stage to honor the late Michael Jackson. Kanye West opened the show with a monumental performance of “Power” atop a smoky crag of rocks marking his return to the Awards show spotlight and circuit. King of the South T.I., backed by Travis Barker on drums and flaming pyrotechnics, tore the house down with his first national TV performance since being released from prison. Brown, West and T.I.’s show-stopping performances at this year’s tenth anniversary BET AWARDS ’10 provide platform for these three artists to re-emerge from the ashes for the negative publicity they recently faced to reclaim their status as superstars.
