“We Are The World 25 For Haiti” Premiers At The Olympics Opening Ceremonies

If you missed the Opening Ceremonies of the Vancouver Olympics on Friday night, chances are you missed the world premier of the ‘We Are The World 25 For Haiti’ remake.
A shortened, tightly edited version aired on NBC and there were definitely some surprises. The remake included many trends in popular music including everyone’s best friend, auto-tune. It also included rap, as well as translation into Creole, one of Haiti’s official languages. Michael Jackson posthumously appeared in the video alongside his sister, Janet. What was meant to be a touching tribute to Jackson was kind of awkward. Every other singer was filmed in front of a microphone while they were recording, however Janet was shot in front of a green screen with no microphone in sight and you couldn’t really hear her.
The song also started with Justin Bieber. I’m sure Bieber’s fans went nuts, but really? And I was surprised that Miley Cyrus wasn’t included in the shortened version. Cyrus sang on the second verse, which you can see in the extended version of the video here on iMusicDaily.
Regardless of what we think, ‘We Are The World 25 For Haiti’ is a great effort to raise money for Haiti. You can download the remake of ‘We Are The World 25 For Haiti’ and donate HERE.

Paramore Cancels LA Show. Hayley Williams Lost Her Voice

Seems like something’s going around. First Miley and now Hayley?!
Paramore had to cancel their show in Los Angeles last night (October 1) at the Hollywood Palladium. No official reason was given, but lead singer Hayley Williams told the crowd at their concert in Pomona, CA that she had gotten sick a week before their tour started. By the end of that show, Hayley was unable to take the stage for the band’s encore performance, so the audience filled in and sang Paramore’s hit ‘Misery Business’.
Hayley took to her Twitter account the following day announcing “I need my voice back.” She also said “Thanks to all our amazing fans in Pomona for singing for me last night.”

Band To Watch Out For – Repeater

These guys have some real talent!
Repeater is a group with a unique sound that is somewhat gothic yet searing. I had the pleasure of catching one of their shows a while back and was blown away! The lyrics are poetic and full of fervor, the melodies are dark yet hopeful and drive into you, and when they perform they play with true rock and roll passion. Their polished sound is laced with influences from The Cure, a contribution by their world-class producer, Ross Robinson, who has worked with The Cure and bands such as Korn and Limp Bizkit.
Check out their song “The Gifted and the Damned” below, and if you’re in the Los Angeles area you can catch them at Boardner’s on October 9th in Hollywood. Get more show info and hear more of their tunes at www.myspace.com/repeaterband.

AMERICAN IDOL RECAP
March 4, 2009 by Rob Steiner

Last night’s show was disappointing, to say the least. Seems the contestants this year just can’t pick the right songs. Who’s guiding these people?
I was really looking forward to seeing Kristen McNamara’s performance, but ‘Give Me One Reason’ was her song choice…really??? Are you kidding me? WHY?! She’s so much more talented than that. I’m not saying that Tracy Chapman isn’t talented, but Kristen’s voice is capable of so much more and that song said NOTHING about her. I hope her voice is good enough to get her though, but after that song, I don’t know.
Nathaniel Marshall got way too much attention last night. The guy can sing, but did he really deserve that much time on screen last night? And I didn’t really like his song choice. He did a good job making it his own, but if he’s really all about having fun and making a fun record, then he should choose something more along those lines. Not Meatloaf.
Lil Rounds is incredible. BUT, I didn’t like her song choice either. I remember it was a Mary J. Blige song, but I can’t remember which one. There were moments that she sounded just like Mary J, but then there were moments when she fell short. For her first live performance on television, I would have liked it to have been more memorable. She’s definitely going through to the next round.
Kendall Beard was somewhat memorable. She’s got a great lower range, but her upper range definitely needs some work. Once she hit the chorus, her performance went downhill.
And now to Felicia Barton, the replacement for Joanna Pacitti who was disqualified from the competition. There’s something fishy about her and I can’t seem to get her off of my mind. Did anyone else notice the COMPLETE makeover that she’s had? She looks incredible compared to the first audition and Hollywood rounds. Every season, the top 12 contestants get a makeover and that’s when we start to see them as potential pop stars, but we’re still in the top 36 round and no one else seems to have had as drastic of a makeover as Felicia. And, most notable to me, was her new set of teeth. Veneers are not cheap and it appears as though she’s just recently had them done sometime after the Hollywood Week round. Did she do this all on her own? Or is Idol behind her new look? There’s no denying that she can sing and her new look made me like her even more last night. She definitely stood out from the crowd when she took the stage. I will be surprised if she doesn’t go through tonight. And, yes, Paula, it is funny how the universe works…and a little help doesn’t hurt.
