After Karl Lagerfeld called Adele “fat” a few days ago, he is now apologizing for it.

The Chanel creative director sparked controversy earlier this week when he commented on the Grammy nominee’s looks and talent in the Metro newspaper. “The thing at the moment is Adele,” he said. “She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.”

Speaking once again to Metro, Lagerfeld issued a statement about his previous comments. “I’d like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article, it changes the meaning of the thought. What I said was in relation to Lana Del Rey and the sentence has since been taken out of context from how it was originally published,” he said. “I actually prefer Adele, she is my favorite singer and I am a great admirer of her. I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance. Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can’t wait for her next CD.”

Regardless of what Lagerfeld thinks about the Grammy-nominated pop star, in a new interview with People magazine, Adele opens up about her appearance. “I’ve never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines. I represent the majority of women and I’m very proud of that,” she said, according to the U.K. edition of Marie Claire.

“I’d lose weight if I was an actress and had to play a role where you’re supposed to be 40 pounds lighter, but weight has nothing to do with my career. Even when I was signing [a contract], most of the industry knew if anyone ever dared say [lose weight] to me, they wouldn’t be working with me.”

The singer is up for six Grammy Awards at Sunday’s show, including Album of the Year for her massively successful 21. She’s also poised to take the stage at the show. It’ll mark her first TV appearance since throat surgery last November.

Steve Jobs to Receive Posthumous Grammy

Steve Jobs resigns

Although Steve Jobs was not a singer or musically creative artist like those typically honored each year at the Grammys, his singular contribution to the music industry has earned him a special tribute at the 2012 Grammy Awards.

It was announced on Wednesday that the Apple co-founder will receive a posthumous Grammy in February for his innovative approach to downloading music through iTunes. His system for buying and downloading music revolutionized music in an era where music piracy and illegal downloading was rampant. Jobs died in October after losing a seven-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

The 56-year-old visionary will be remembered as having helped “create products and technology that transformed the way we consume music, TV, movies, and books,” according to a statement from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. The award will also recognize “Jobs’ innovations such as the iPod and its counterpart, the online iTunes store, which revolutionized the industry and how music was distributed and purchased.”

Not only is Jobs getting a Grammy but a bronze statue was recently erected in his honor in Budapest, Hungary. The statue was commissioned by Hungarian software company Graphisoft, which has had a close relationship with Apple since the 1980s.

Well-loved songstress Adele made another record on Monday, when the Official Charts Company (OCC) confirmed that her second album “21″ had become the highest selling album in Britain of this century.

The record passed sales of 3.4 million copies, surpassing the late Amy Winehouse’s 2006 LP “Back To Black” which sold 3.3 million.

According to the OCC, the album has never left the British top 10 since its release in January, and on Sunday it rose from 9th to 5th in it’s 45th week on the charts, a jump mostly likely due to her 6 recent Grammy nominations.

Adele’s great success in her native Britain is met in the US, where 21 passed the four-million copy mark in October.

Rihanna had great success with Grammy-nominated Loud, and is looking to change music with her sixth full-length album, Talk That Talk.

Def Jam’s VP of A&R, Bu Thiam, talked about how the next album with Rihanna needs to do no less than “change music.”

“My job as an A&R is to always bring her different records that are hit records but doesn’t sound like anything she’s done in the past,” Thiam said. “Her whole thing is, ‘How can we be different? How can we change music? How can we go from having a great album like Loud and still come with a better album and keep pushing and keep hitting the bar?’ The good thing about Rihanna,” he said, “is that she doesn’t want to be in the same realm as anybody else. She wants to be in a zone where when you think of Rihanna, you think of new, you think of different.”

“Different” meant bringing well-known DJ Calvin Harris into the creative process. Producer Harris collaborated with the singer on her tracks, “Where Have You Been” and “We Found Love,” giving Rihanna the 11th #1 single of her career.

The growing popularity of DJ culture in pop music helped get Harris involved with the album, but the Rihanna’s desire to create a new sound was ultimately what made it happen. “It’s a different sound and that’s what she wanted to go with,” Thiam said. “She wanted to change music. I have to salute her for taking a chance ’cause most artists wouldn’t have done that.”

Announced Wednesday were the Grammy nominations, and leading the lineup was Kanye West with a total of seven nominations, mostly for the song, “All of the Lights.” His album was left off of best album contention.

Following Kanye are Adele and Bruno Mars, each competing for album, record and song of the year. Both singers earned six nominations each.

Rock superstars the Foo Fighters also racked up six nominations, most notably for Album of the Year for “Wasting Light.” Also up for top album honors, aside from Adele’s “21″ and Mars’ “Doo-Wops & Hooligans,” is Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” and Rihanna’s “Loud.”

The surprise artist thrown in the mix is Bon Iver, an indie-folk singer who appeared on much of Kanye West’s album “Twisted Fantasy.” Iver is up for Record of the Year for “Holocene,” which also snagged a nomination for Song of the Year, and is competing against Nicki Minaj, Skrillex, J. Cole and The Band Perry for Best New Artist.

The 54th Grammys will be held Feb. 12 in Los Angeles on CBS. Tune in to see all the winners!
