Coldplay Shares Music Catalog With ‘Glee’

When Glee first started, no one knew how big of a hit the Fox show would become and not every artist was willing to share their music catalog with the show. After seeing what the show can do for music sales, it looks like some are changing their minds.

Ryan Murphy, creator of Glee, explains:

“At the beginning a lot of people didn’t know what we were and asked to see pages [in advance], but I refused because I didn’t want to set precedent of them having any involvement. My favorite rejection was Bryan Adams. Coldplay and Bryan Adams were really the only rejections. But Coldplay called a week ago and said, ‘We’re sorry, you can have our catalog.’”

And The Winner Of Amerian Idol Is……..Lee DeWyze!

Lee DeWyze Wins American Idol

Lee DeWyze has been crowned the 2010 American Idol! He could barely comprehend everything that took place last night.

“Honestly,” he said backstage after the finale, “I can’t even explain it to you. There was confetti flying, there was fireworks. I don’t know where I am. I’m turning around. It just all happened so fast. It was amazing. It felt like there was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. It feels really good. This is an amazing experience for me, especially since this has been a long process, and it’s a lot harder than I ever thought it would be.”

Now that the show is over, Lee DeWyze said he will go on tour, get in a studio and do what he loves best. When he finally does get to work on his album, he said it will be a mix of sounds: alternative, rock and folk.

He also addressed his final performances on Tuesday night, saying that even though he got critiqued harshly by the judges, he wouldn’t change much.

“You’d think by the last week, you get it. They’re going to say what they’re going to say,” he said of the judges. “But as long as you go out there, you try your hardest … you can’t really walk away with regret. There’s been ups and downs. But that’s what makes this show so great. You have to be vulnerable. Sometimes it’s really awesome; sometimes it’s not. I’m happy with what I did, for sure. I think anybody can go back and nitpick, but I love the songs I sang. I went out there and sang them, and I’m happy I did.”

Did you guys watch last night?!

Will Paula Abdul Return To American Idol For The Season Finale?

Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul American Idol

Every year the producers of American Idol do their best to make sure the public doesn’t know who will appear during the finale. There have been quite a few rumors circulating right now as to which stars will appear during the live telecast, on Tuesday and Wednesday night on FOX.

The word on the street is Paula Abdul will make an appearance during the finale as part of a farewell to Simon Cowell, who will no longer be a judge on the hit show. If Paula shows up, this will be the first time she has appeared on Idol since she was replaced by Ellen.

Simon Cowell is ready to move on from Idol. He will be kicking off the US version of X-Factor next year. The 50 year old judge is very thrilled about his new foray and he will still remain as “brutally honest” as he has been all these in American Idol.

Will you guys watch the finale to see who wins? Will it be Crystal Bowersox or Lee DeWyze? Or are you going to be tuning in to see Simon’s last appearance?

And then there were three…

Last night, Michael Lynche, aka Big Mike, was sent home on American Idol. For most of you, I know you were glad to see him go. I still don’t understand why the judges saved him.

Now, it’s down to Casey, Lee, and Crystal.

Will it be a a Lee and Crystal showdown? Who do you think will make the final 2?

Idol Recap: Top 12 Take On The Rolling Stones

Tonight the Top 12 contestants took their first steps onto the big Idol stage and the theme was The Rolling Stones. They all appear to have gotten a slight makeover and, interestingly, Katie led the group out. I little subliminal hint as to who the Idol producers want to win? I think so.

Michael Lynche – ‘Miss You’ – After last week’s performance, he had a lot to live up to. He started off having a little too much fun, but the vocals were a great way to kick off tonight’s show. I could have done without the dancing, though.

Didi Benami – ‘Play With Fire’ – Did she just flub up the song? I think so, but she recovered quickly. Girl brought an attitude tonight with this song and showed us a not so sweet and innocent side. She’s growing each week. As her vocals get more solid, I think we need to keep an eye on her.

Casey James – ‘It’s All Over Now’ – Casey rocked this song tonight. I may have given him a lot of crap for all of the cougar banter with Kara, but tonight, he proved that he’s got talent and star quality. The only thing that would have made this any better is if he had worked the stage instead of standing in the center the entire time.

Lacey Brown – ‘Ruby Tuesday’ – Did Kara say she agrees with the guys? But, Simon hasn’t spoken yet. Kara really is becoming Paula, she’s psychic now! I thought this was a great song choice for Lacey. The strings really complimented her voice. She had a great vocal moment about ¾ of the way through the song. But why does she always find a way to sit down?

Andrew Garcia – ‘Gimme Shelter’ – Not bad. I get nervous when he’s not playing his guitar. It’s obvious he’s a little uncomfortable without it. His arm movements were a little forced and funny. But he delivered a solid vocal, although he lacked the energy to really impress anyone. I’ve been rooting for him since Hollywood week like everyone else, but he’s getting lost in this competition. I really hope he sticks around, though, so we can hear more of his original style like we heard in ‘Straight Up’.

Katie Stevens – ‘Wild Horses’ – She’s just so darn cute, you want her to do well. And I think it’s obvious that the producers of Idol do to. Did you see those camera shots on her? They’re trying to make her look like a star. This was, by far, her best song choice since the competition started. She connected with the song and with the camera. Let’s hope she continues to climb from this point on. With all of the tween pop stars, Katie would fit right in. Now is her time if she plays her cards right.

Tim Urban – ‘Under My Thumb’ – Kara just did it again. She said she agrees with the guys when they haven’t both spoken yet. Unless she’s referring to Ellen as a guy. I mean she kind of looks like a boy, but she’s definitely a woman. While watching the #idol twitter feed, it’s obvious that girls are only voting for this guy because of his looks. What was up with his reggae inspired remix?

Siobhan Magnus – ‘Paint It Black’ – She’s so awkward and stiff, but her vocals are insane. How does she hit those notes! Her arrangement and interpretation of the song was very reminiscent of Adam Lambert. Great choice for her.

Lee Dewyze – ‘Beast Of Burden’ – Ok, it was solid, but so boring and completely forgettable.

Paige Miles – ‘Honky Tonk Woman’ – She’s still here? For the first time, I wasn’t completely appalled by her performance. Even with laryngitis, she delivered a strong vocal that reminded the judges why the kept her in the competition.

Aaron Kelly – ‘Angie’ – Thank God they actually styled his hair tonight. It’s refreshing to see someone so young know exactly what kind of artist he wants to be. The young girls already love him, so he definitely chose the right song tonight.

Crystal Bowersox – ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’ – There’s no denying that she’s incredible and clearly stands out from the rest of the contestants. When she’s performing, it’s like I’m not even watching Idol anymore. Sure, Siobhan had a great night, but Crystal delivers every week.

Were you surprised by anyone tonight? I still haven’t been completely blown away by anyone yet this season.

We’ll see who goes home tomorrow!

Glee is set to return on April 13th and fans are in store for quite a few treats! Creator Ryan Murphy dished the following details on several celebrity appearances on the show.

Creator Ryan Murphy on Puck and Rachel:
“Yes, they will get back together. But the great thing about Puck is he’s a bad boy so he has an affair with almost every girl on the show.”

On Lady Gaga:
“We’re doing an episode that’s a tribute to theatricality. We reached out to Lady Gaga and she said, ‘Yes, I’d love to be a part of it.’ So we will be doing Lady Gaga this season.”

On Madonna:
“I’ve worked with Madonna before. I admire her greatly and I’m friends with her a little bit socially. I called her up and wrote her a letter and said we want to write up a tribute to you and she said yes and she cooperated in every way possible. We do 10 songs altogether. Jane is going to do ‘Vogue.’”

On a possible guest appearance by Julia Roberts:
“I just finished a movie with Julia, Eat, Pray, Love. She saw the rough cuts and fell in love with the show. I don’t know if Julia’s gonna do it, maybe. But she loves the show.”

Matthew Morrison on Neil Patrick Harris:
“We’re filming right now with him and Joss Whedon. He plays a high school rival of mine. Two years older than me. He got all the girls and the good songs. He’s on the school board and trying to take down the glee club. We have two duets, Aerosmith and Billy Joel.”

Jane Lynch on Sue Sylvester lines that didn’t make it the final cut:
“Shut your mouth before I rape it. Rachel wears floor length denim skirts that make her look like she’s escaped from a polygamist compound. I will kick you square in the vagina.”

Murphy also revealed that he’s trying to secure guest appearances by Justin Timberlake, Hugh Jackman and Queen Latifah.

Idol Recap: Top 12 Results Show Shocks Us All

Oh what a night…

This season of American Idol is the most bizarre one, yet! I don’t understand what is going on this year with the lack of talented finalists. They simply do not compare to contestants from seasons past.

Tonight, the Top 12 were announced, which means 4 contestants were sent home. The results were nothing short of shocking. Lilly Scott, Katelyn Epperly, Alex Lambert, and Todrick Hall were eliminated.

How in the world did Paige Miles make it through? What a joke. I’ll stand by that remark until the night she actually delivers a solid, noteworthy performance. Until then, I’m in shock.

Poor Alex Lambert. Sure he lacked confidence, but he stood out for his unique vocal style. Sure, I hated his mullet, but if I closed my eyes, I enjoyed listening to his past 2 performances.

I don’t really care that Todrick’s gone. He annoyed me.

I thought Katelyn would last a little longer. You already know I’ve got a soft spot for anyone who plays the piano, but I thought she was talented.

Lilly was the ugly duckling of the competition. I think she was just too far out there for the Idol audience this year.

I’ll probably be in shock for a few more hours over tonight’s results.

Who do you think deserved to go home?

Idol Recap: Top 8 Women Start To Deliver

Tonight, the top 8 women took the stage on American Idol and finally started to deliver a few memorable performances.

Katie Stevens – ‘Breakaway’ – Kelly Clarkson – What’s up with those pants? She seemed nervous tonight and her voice wasn’t as solid as it has been. I definitely didn’t feel any sort of connection between her and the song, but I understand why she chose it. The judges weren’t too hard on her and Simon even gave her a 10 out of 10 for effort. I just want her to let loose and have fun. She’s losing herself in this competition.

Siobhan Magnus – ‘House Of The Rising Son’ – The Animals – I say it every week, but she’s so weird! And Simon agrees, so I must be right. Ha. Her vocals were great, she made the song her own by starting off a cappella and slowing it down.

Lacey Brown – ‘The Story’ – Belinda Carlile – This was her best performance so far. She finally reminded us how she got to this point, because, up until now, she’s failed to deliver. I just don’t think her voice belongs in this competition.

Katelyn Epperly – ‘I Feel The Earth Move’ – Carole King – So maybe no one liked the song and she wasn’t as impressive as last week, but there’s something about this chick. I’m a sucker for anyone who plays the piano. Maybe that’s why I like her so much.

Didi Benami – ‘Rhiannon’ – Fleetwood Mac – She nailed it! And she needed to this week. She’s had a rough couple of weeks so far and tonight she stood out. Randy needs to clean his ears out. Didi needs to stick with the guitar. With it, she’s incredible.

Paige Miles – ‘Smile’ – Charlie Chaplin – Horrible. The judges have always said she has such an amazing voice and so much potential, but I’ve never seen it. She sucked tonight. And if it was such a hard and emotional song for her to sing, then why on earth did she choose it! I really hope she goes home this week.

Crystal Bowersox – ‘Give Me One Reason’ – Tracy Chapman – She truly is in the zone when she performs. I didn’t feel like I was watching Idol anymore. Crystal has a way of drawing you into her performance, which makes her stand out easily from the rest of the contestants. She makes this season interesting.

Lilly Scott – ‘I Fall To Pieces’ – Patsy Cline – Her voice seemed somewhat shaky tonight and I didn’t like her song choice. She added her own funky style to it and I’m sure she’ll make it through to the top 12, but I just didn’t think it was anything special.

And there you have it. Thank God Idol was only an hour tonight. I was beginning to feel tortured during the 2 hour shows.

Didi and Crystal were my favorites.

Who do you think is going home? Paige? Lacey? Katie?
