Alicia Keys was the artist who helped guide the contestants through their performances on this last week’s American Idol. “Big lights will inspire you…” she sang appropriately during her solo rendition of “Empire State of Mind Pt.II” on Thursday. Alicia’s beautiful silhouette glided onto the stage singing “Un-Thinkable (I’m Ready)” after Ryan Seacrest announced “She’s the co-founder of Keep a Child Alive.” Luckily, Lil Kim was not around to crash this one.

Check out this video of Alicia Keys performing “Un-Thinkable (I’m Ready)” on American Idol –

And here’s a little reminder of Lil Kim interrupting Alicia Keys & Jayz –

Alicia Keys performed an amazing medley of ‘Empire State Of Mind’, ‘Doesn’t Mean Anything’, and ‘No One’ on Britain’s The X Factor.

I definitely prefer her solo version of ‘Empire State Of Mind’. I hope she releases it soon.

Jay-Z will earn his fourth Hot 100 No. 1, but his first as a lead or co-billed performer, as his collaboration with Alicia Keys, “Empire State of Mind,” will top the chart to be released today.

The legendary rapper’s prior chart-topping entries came as a featured vocalist on Mariah Carey’s “Heartbreaker” (1999), his now-wife’s “Crazy In Love” (2003) and Rihanna’s “Umbrella” (2007). “Empire” is also Keys’ fourth overall No. 1, as she previously scaled the list with her debut single “Fallin’” (2001), her duet with Usher, “My Boo,” (2004) and “No One” (2007).
