Dr. Conrad Murray Gets Maximum Sentence for Michael Jackson Death

Dr. Conrad Murray, the doctor who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the overdose death of Michael Jackson, was sentenced to the maximum four years in prison on Tuesday, putting the tragic saga of The King of Pop to rest.
As Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor chastised Dr. Conrad Murray for his “horrific violation of trust” while caring for Jackson, Murray sat stoically, unflinching.
Judge Pastor said one of the most disturbing aspects of Murray’s case was a slurred recording of Jackson that was recovered from the doctor’s cell phone.
“That tape recording was Dr. Murray’s insurance policy,” Pastor said. “It was designed to record his patient surreptitiously at that patient’s most vulnerable point.”
Michael Jackson’s family said in a statement, “We are not here to seek revenge. There is nothing you can do today that will bring Michael back.” The family expressed to Pastor that they only wanted the doctor who was responsible for Michael’s death to receive a stiff sentence that serves as a warning to opportunistic doctors.
Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter following a six-week trial that presented the most detailed account yet of Jackson’s final hours and stirred questions about Murray’s treatment of the superstar with an operating-room anesthetic as he battled chronic insomnia.

Janet Jackson Refuses To Watch “This Is It”

Janet Jackson has no plans to ever see her late brother Michael’s concert documentary movie This Is It – because it would be too painful for the grieving star to watch.
The film, which features video footage of the King of Pop rehearsing for his ill-fated London residency, has been a huge hit with fans and recently passed the $200 million mark at the global box office, just three weeks after its release.
Members of the Jackson family, including patriarch Joe, and Michael’s brothers Jermaine, Tito, Jackie and Marlon, all turned out for the Los Angeles premiere of This Is It last month – but Janet refuses to watch it. And she admits even walking past the promotional posters for the film gets her choked up with emotion.
In an ABC News exclusive, Janet says, “I have not seen it. I definitely won’t, not right now. I don’t know if I’d ever see it. (It’s) too soon, too hard. It’s hard when I see the posters around the city, the commercials, the trailers (on TV). It has (caught me off guard emotionally).”
The Thriller superstar died in June, shortly before he was due to kick off his mammoth tour.

Janet Jackson blames Dr. Conrad Murray for her brother Michael’s death. She told ABC News in an interview to air Wednesday that Murray should no longer be allowed to practice medicine. “He was the one that was administering,” Jackson said. “I think he is responsible.”
Prosecutors in Los Angeles are weighing charges against Murray in the pop singer’s death. Murray told police he administered a powerful anesthetic to the singer shortly before Jackson died June 25.
A spokeswoman for the doctor, Miranda Sevcik, said Monday he continues to maintain he neither prescribed or administered anything to Jackson that should have killed him.
Jackson told ABC’s Robin Roberts that she was at her home in New York on June 25 when her assistant called to say Michael had been taken to the hospital. She told relatives to call her when they got to the hospital and grew concerned when she wasn’t getting any calls back.
She says that a day doesn’t go by when she doesn’t think of Michael. “It just didn’t ring true to me. It felt like a dream,” she said. “It’s still so difficult for me to believe.

A woman connected to Michael Jackson’s personal physician has been ordered to testify before a grand jury in Los Angeles, her attorney confirmed Tuesday.
Nicole Alvarez received a subpoena to appear before the grand jury on Wednesday morning, said Joseph Low IV, adding that prosecutors declined to give him any more details
He also declined to characterize the relationship between Alvarez and Dr. Conrad Murray.
Newspaper reports have called her Murray’s girlfriend and said the pair have an infant son together. Alvarez’s apartment was searched last month.
Murray is the target of an investigation into Jackson’s June 25 death, which has been classified a homicide. He told police he gave the pop superstar the powerful anesthetic propofol and other drugs in the hours before Jackson’s death.
Murray’s attorney has said the doctor didn’t give Jackson anything that “should have” killed him.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which would prosecute the case against Murray if one is filed, declined to comment.
A grand jury subpoena is an effective way to force reluctant witnesses to testify, said Stan Goldman, a professor of criminal procedure at Loyola Law School Los Angeles.
“They can be held in contempt just like refusing in court,” Goldman said.
He said it’s hard to tell what Alvarez’s testimony to grand jurors might mean for Murray.
It’s possible authorities “don’t have such a strong case that they want to do without this woman,” Goldman said. “They’d rather have her.
“On the other hand, it’s not good, because they’re still interested it seems.”

The Los Angeles County coroner has ruled Michael Jackson’s death a homicide. A fatal combination of drugs was administered to Jackson a few hours before he died on June 25th.
Test results showed that Jackson had a mixture of the powerful anesthetic propofol along with two sedatives in his body.
It is now likely that Dr. Conrad Murray will be charged with manslaughter.
