MTV Gains Rights To Michael Jackson Documentary

The network that introduced millions to Michael Jackson will air his final performance.

MTV Networks has acquired the exclusive U.S. television rights to the posthumous documentary “Michael Jackson’s This Is It.”

MTV helped boost the singer’s career into the stratosphere during the 1980s by airing Jackson’s music videos.

Sister networks such as VH1, BET and Palladia also will have rights to air the film.

“This Is It” was shot from March to June and includes concert rehearsal and behind-the-scenes footage as Jackson prepared for his planned comeback stand in London.

Michael Jackson’s ‘This Is It’ Extended Through Thanksgiving

It was just announced that the Michael Jackson documentary, This Is It, will remain in theaters through Thanksgiving weekend.

In a press release that was just released, the chairman of Sony Pictures, Jeff Blake, explained:

“In just 5 days, Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT has become the highest grossing concert film of all time and we are elated by the response to this special film by fans, critics and moviegoers from all over the world. With this kind of global response, it’s clear that the motion picture deserves an extended run and we are going to do everything we can to make the film available to everyone who wants to see Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT on the big screen.”

Michael Jackson’s New Song Details

New details have surfaced regarding Michael Jackson’s upcoming single This Is It. The song will be released on October 26th, followed by a 2-disc album of the same name on October 27th. The album release will coincide with the worldwide premiere of the film This Is It, which documents the King of Pop’s preparation for his comeback show.

“This song only defines, once again, what the world already knows – that Michael is one of God’s greatest gifts,“ said John McClain, co-producer of the album and co-executor of his estate

The firsc disc will feature the original album masters of Michael’s greatest hits arranged in the same order as they appear in the film, ending with two versions of the never-released This Is It. And, of course, the new single features backing vocals by the Jackson brothers.

Disc two offers unreleased versions of his classic tracks, including a spoken word poem from Michael entitled Planet Earth. It also includes a 36-page commemorative booklet with exclusive pictures of his last rehearsal.

To promote the release of his ‘This Is It’ documentary, a single that Michael Jackson had recorded to be released with his upcoming summer tour will now be released.

The single was put on the back burner, but producers have remixed the vocals and added orchestral accompaniment and feel that it’s ready for the public to hear.

“It sounds awesome. The size and scope of the orchestra hasn’t been seen since Ray Charles recorded Georgia. Everyone expects a huge hit,” said a record label source. “But they’re worried about it getting out – they’ve hired huge bodyguards to stand by the studio door.”

This Is It, the last known footage of Michael Jackson during the dress rehearsal for what was supposed to be his This Is It tour, will be released on October 28th, 2009.
