Beyonce And The Roots Perform “Countdown” Together!

Beyonce on Jimmy Kimmel

If you want to make Beyoncé slightly more epic, just add The Roots. We know this because that’s exactly what happened this weekend on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. Performing “Countdown,” Beyoncé foregoes her signature hyper-choreographed moves in favor of a more subdued, sexy performance. And it’s pretty damn sexy — even when the girl isn’t really moving, damn, can she move! Complete with hip-defining costume and wind machine, Bey proves why she’s the King; even with an amazing band (and they are amazing) like The Roots behind her, all you can think while watching is “Oh Bey!”

Scotty McCreery sexy

“American Idol” champion Scotty McCreery became the most successful winner in eight years on Wednesday when his debut country album went straight to the top of the Billboard charts.

McCreery, who turned 18 years-old this week, was also the youngest male artist to see a debut release open in the No.1 spot, and “Clear As Day” notched the highest first week album sales of any solo country artist this year, Billboard said.

McCreery took the “American Idol” crown in an all-country music finale of the TV singing contest in May. “Clear As Day” , released on a Universal Music Group label, sold 197,000 copies in the first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan figures.

Selena Gomez to host MTV Europe Music Awards 2011

Sexy Selena Gomez

U.S. teen actress and singer Selena Gomez will host this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards in Belfast on November 6, the music channel said on Monday.

The 19-year-old, who is dating another teenage sensation the 17-year-old Canadian pop star Justin Bieber, will aim to find time to tweet and provide commentary for mtvema.com website as well as her regular hosting duties.

Gomez follows the likes of Justin Timberlake, Eva Longoria, Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg in hosting one of pop music’s biggest nights outside the United States.

Although held in a different European city each year, the MTV EMAs tend to be dominated by U.S. acts.

This year, Lady Gaga leads the list of nominations with six, followed by two other U.S. acts — Katy Perry and Bruno Mars. Bieber has been shortlisted in three categories.

Watch an Extended Preview of ‘The X Factor’

X Factor Premiere USA

Fox has bestowed upon us an extended preview of “The X Factor,” and a few differences between it and “American Idol” are already clear.

For starters, it doesn’t look like the initial auditions are held privately in a room with only the judges present (as has always been done on “Idol”).

“X Factor” seems to throw contestants right into the fire, shoving them onto an arena stage with a sold-out crowd in attendance. Anyone with stage-fright will certainly show their colors with a quickness in that environment.

Also, the ubiquitous Coke logos from “Idol” are replaced by Pepsi, which reportedly paid $60 million to sponsor “X Factor.”

And while “Idol” has a narrow age range into which contestants must fall, “X Factor” welcomes everyone. The extended preview here shows two from opposite ends of the spectrum — a 13-year-old girl and a woman in her 40s. The judges and the giant crowd (no, seriously, that crowd is freakin’ huge) love them both.

“X Factor” premieres on Fox on September 21. In the meantime, take a look at the eight-minute preview.

Indiana State fair tragaedy

So tragic. Family members say a 22-year-old college student is the sixth person to die from injuries suffered when a stage collapsed at the Indiana State Fair last weekend.

Along with several people who died immediately, at least four dozen were injured when a strong wind gust toppled the metal scaffolding holding lights and other equipment and sent it plunging into fans awaiting a concert by the country group Sugarland.

The Star Press first reported 22-year-old Jennifer Haskell died Friday morning at a hospital in Indianapolis. Her uncle, Mike Whited, announced her death in a statement later Friday.

Haskell was entering her senior year at Ball State University, where she was studying sports medicine

State Fair spokesman Andy Klotz tells WTHR-TV the fair expresses “its deepest sympathies to her family.”
