She’s already a talent show sensation, but songbird Leona Lewis is hoping she’ll soon be a double Oscar winner. The Grammy-nominated Brit has two soundtrack tunes in the running for the Best Original Song category.
Leona’s current single “Happy” is featured in the critically-acclaimed Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey-produced film Precious, the story of an overweight, illiterate teen who goes to an alternative school in search of a better life.
“I’m just so proud of it cos I wrote it, and to be associated with a film like Precious, which is about trying to overcome troubles and trials in your life,” Leona, 24, said of the song. “I’m glad that someone got that message.”
Leona’s “I See You” is also tapped for an Oscar nod. The song is featured in Titanic director James Cameron’s new sci-fi adventure Avatar.
“I only saw a half-hour clip of the film,” said Leona. “It’s not finished yet, and it’s insane, awesome. I heard the song – great lyrics, very, very epic. So I went in and I did it. And then they played it to James and he phoned me up and said: ‘Oh, my God. I love you!’ He’s so cool.”
“I had this perception that he was going to be totally untouchable and unreach-able. But he’s just like your nice uncle. He’s lovely.”
Leona could perform both songs at the 2010 Academy Awards bash in Tinseltown next March.

Controversy’s a’comin’: Due to a loophole in the Grammy eligibility guidelines, quirky pop star Lady Gaga — the unspoken leading contender for a Best New Artist statue at the 2010 Grammys next February — has been deemed ineligible for nomination in that category.
The singer’s debut album, The Fame, spawned a handful of Number One hits, earning the New York-born Gaga comparisions to Pop Queen Madonna. The Fame has sold more than 1 million copies to date.
So what gives?
According to Variety, the charttopper with questionable fashion sense earned her first Grammy nod when her hit single “Just Dance” was honored in the Best Dance Recording category at the 2009 ceremony in Los Angeles — therefore rendering Gaga unable to be nominated for Best New Artist this year by Grammy regulations.

Country sweetheart Taylor Swift leads the pack with the most nominations for the upcoming 37th annual American Music Awards.
Swift has been nominated for 6 awards including Artist Of The Year. Her album Fearless was one of the biggest selling albums of the year, so it’s no surprise that she’s on top with the most nominations.
Swift has some stiff competition for Artist Of The Year as the late Michael Jackson is also nominated in the same category.
Jackson is right behind Swift with 5 nominations, followed by Eminem with 4. Beyoncé, the Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Kings Of Leon, and T.I. each have 3 nominations.
The nominees are determined by radio airplay and retail sales, while members of the public determine the winners through online voting.
The awards ceremony will take place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on November 22 and will be broadcast on ABC.
The first batch of confirmed performers includes Alicia Keys, the Black Eyed Peas, Jennifer Lopez and “American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert.

Kanye may have pissed a lot of people off with his actions at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, but that didn’t stop him from getting 9 nominations for the fourth annual BET Hip-Hop Awards, which will air on October 27th.
Kanye should be thankful for the year he’s had leading up to the VMAs. Hopefully, he’s taking a big bite of the humble pie everyone’s telling him to eat.
Will Kanye’s proven track record survive the recent VMA incident?
