Pete Doherty Apologizes For Nazi Anthem

Troubled rocker Pete Doherty has apologized to fans after he was booed offstage for singing a Nazi anthem at a German music festival on Saturday.
The Babyshambles front man was performing at Munich’s on3 when he infuriated concertgoers by singing Deutschland Uber Alles, a section of the country’s national anthem that once was used for German propaganda under Nazi rule. He was subjected to loud booing before festival organizers led him from the stage.
The controversial verse has been prohibited since World War II due to its Nazi association – but a spokesperson for the rocker insists Doherty was “unaware” of the mistake he’d made.
The rep tells Sky News, “(Doherty) wanted to celebrate his appearance in Munich by assimilating and integrating with the crowd, something he tries do wherever he goes. He was unaware of the controversy surrounding the German national anthem and he deeply apologizes if he has caused any offense.”
“Peter himself is from Jewish descent and has fought against racism and fascism with numerous organizations including Love Music Hate Racism. This is a subject he feels very strongly about.”
Bavarian broadcasters Bayerischer Rundfunk, who were airing the concert live, pulled the show from the airwaves moments after Doherty began the track.

British alternative rock trio Muse, pop artist Lily Allen and returning local heroes Powderfinger are booked to play the 2010 Big Day Out festival tour of Australia and New Zealand.
Others confirmed by organizers the line-up includes British electronica acts Groove Armada and Calvin Harris, swaggering Brit rockers Kasabian, alt-rock band the Horrors, rapper Dizzee Rascal and rising local artists Ladyhawke, Lisa Mitchell and the Temper Trap. But there was no space on today’s announcement for David Bowie, who had been widely tipped by bloggers to show down under for an acoustic performance.
Now entering its 18th run, the Big Day Out is the largest outdoor music event of its kind in Australia. Attendance for the six-date 2009 edition reached 263,054, down slightly from the all-time peak of 282,692 for the 2008 tour.
The BDO 2010 kicks off Jan. 15 at Auckland’s Mt Smart Stadium, before moving on to venues at the Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and concluding Jan. 31 at Perth’s Claremont Showground. Tickets will be priced at $140 Australian ($100) for the Australian dates and $132 New Zealand ($92) for the Auckland event.
I don’t know, this lineup seems pretty mediocre. What do you think?
What Is Lily Allen Wearing?!

Lily Allen wore something that strip-barbie would wear. It looks like she made it herself, and what was she thinking wearing at the Bestival in the Isle of Wight?
A lot of people think she should get a boob job. What do you think?
The festival has been held annually in late summer since 2004, in a small country park called ‘Robin Hill’. The event is organized by BBC Radio 1 leftfield DJ Rob da Bank and is an off-shoot of his Sunday Best record label and club nights. Creative Director and wife Josie da Bank and co founders / partners John and Ziggy from Get Involved are also involved in organising the event.
The Isle of Wight was chosen for many reasons as the site of the Bestival, primarily due to its notable natural beauty. It is also known that the Isle of Wight holds more carnivals per capita than anywhere else in the United Kingdom.

Nirvana’s 1992 Reading Set Debuting as CD/DVD in November

Nirvana’s storied August 30, 1992, headlining set at England’s Reading Festival will hit stores on November 3rd as a limited-edition CD+DVD deluxe edition. A double-LP version of the set arrives on November 17th. The DVD consists of remastered footage shot of Nirvana’s epic performance, and the original film has also been color-corrected, making the picture damn near pristine. Only two of the 25 performances on the disc have ever been released officially.
The highlight of the show was a performance of nearly all the songs on the band’s 1991 breakout album, Nevermind. The concert also contains what, at the time, were three unreleased In Utero tracks: “All Apologies,” “Dumb,” and, in its first-ever public performance, “Tourette’s.” Nirvana also reached back to their Sub Pop days, delivering songs like “Blew,” “About a Girl,” and “Negative Creep,” as well as the band’s first single, “Love Buzz.”
Can you believe it’s been like 15 years since Kurt Cobain took his life?

Lollapalooza kicks of with a Downpour

Today was day one of the annual Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, and it started off with some massive rain. Can anybody say mudslide?!
Some of the big acts today were Ben Folds, The Decemberists, Kings of Leon, Bon Iver (AMAZING), KiD CuDi, Thievery Corporation, and Depeche Mode. That’s a pretty strong first day!
The rest of the weekend is looking pretty strong as well, with sunny weather in the forecast. On Saturday you are looking at some great energetic shows like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Animal Collective, and Bassnectar (one of the best live shows you will ever see). Bassnectar plays Saturday night from 8:30 to 10:00 – that will be a night to remember!
Sunday will be pretty epic with Janes Addiction, Ra Ra Riot, Snoop Dogg, and the Killers.
We can’t wait to hear how the festival goes from all you lollapaloozas out there. If you weren’t able to make it, watch the live Lollapalooza podcast here: http://tinyurl.com/mnljeq.
