Less than a week after she announced plans to perform in Malaysia this October, a Pan Malaysian group has come forward to say Beyonce is not welcome.

“We oppose the holding of such concerts and we will take action to prevent it,’ said a spokesman for the PMIP (Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party).

According to the group’s statement, Beyonce’s dress and onstage antics are not acceptable to muslims.

“Her skimpy attire and behaviour onstage are immoral and lead to unclean behaviour,” says the group.

While the threat of protests are looming, sources say Beyonce plans to proceed with show.

As previously reported, Beyonce had been scheduled to perform in the region in 2007 but later canceled.

Beyonce is due to perform in Malaysia October 25.

AMERICAN IDOL RECAP – MOTOWN NIGHT

So tonight it was Motown night for the top 10 on American Idol.

First up, Matt, who chose to sing ‘Let’s Get It On’. The video intro set him up for a great performance and he did well. He started off at the piano and, personally, I wish he had stayed there because I felt his voice was stronger there and he was more visibly more comfortable. He is an incredible talent and this weeks theme is right up his alley.

Kris – ‘How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) – He is defining himself more and more every week and I still believe that he knows exactly what he’s doing in this competition. He put his own spin on a classic and the judges loved it. What’s not to love about this guy…He’s got the looks, the voice, and the talent to go far.

Scott – ‘Can’t Hurry Love’ – I wasn’t sure what to think after his video intro. My initial reaction was bad song choice. I didn’t like how he started the song at all. He looked really uncomfortable throughout the performance. It was almost like he was concentrating on the next line the whole time. Simon was right on this one. Scott’s song choices are very wrong and he is not standing out. He could be going home this week.

Megan – ‘For Once In My Life’ – I could have sworn she would sing ‘Baby Love’, but I guess not. She started the song by shouting and I was really disappointed. She has so much potential. She truly has the most unique voice of any contestant, but she over-sang every line of the song tonight. It was definitely the wrong choice. I wish the judges had a say in the song choices. I’m tired of listening to awful performances and the same judge’s comments week after week. Wouldn’t it be great to be blown away be every performance and have a tight competition? I think so.

Anoop – ‘Oh Baby Baby’ – He did a great job. I’m almost able to take him seriously after his last 2 performances. He’s definitely stepping up to the plate and showing up that he’s got what it takes. It’s time for him to sell it to us, though. He looks a bit bored during his performances. He’s really improving in this competition and I bet he’ll bring something new to the game next week.

Michael – ‘Ain’t To Proud To Beg’ – He needs to go home. I completely agree with the judges. I don’t have a clue what kind of artist Michael is. The only place I could see him is in the country music, but I question how successful he would be. He doesn’t captivate me when I watch him and his performances are completely forgettable.

Lil – ‘Heatwave’ – This was the week for her to shine above the rest, but she fell short. From the look to the vocals, there was nothing authentic about her performance tonight. No one can deny that she is an incredible singer, but she needs to define herself as a current artist in 2009.

Adam – ‘Tracks Of My Tears’ – What was up with his hair? It was so nice to hear a softer side of his voice on this song. He’s unbelievably talented and tonight he proved it once again. The performance was much more sedated than we’re used to from him, but he nailed it. The standing ovation was well deserved. Kara needs to learn to count….she said she had 6 words for Adam, but she gave 8.

Danny – ‘Get Ready’ – Michael McDonald Jr. bounces a little too much for me. He’s a solid performer and I liked the added choreography with the back-up singers, but I’m not really into him as a potential American Idol.

Allison – ‘Papa Was A Rolling Stone’ – Who the hell was she in a past life because there’s no way there’s a 16 year old soul in her. She was INCREDIBLE tonight! The judges were on their feet long before the song was over. Hot Hot Hot!

AMERICAN IDOL COUNTRY WEEK RECAP

American Idol

This week on American Idol was country week and the country genre really shook things up. Some of the obvious standouts from last week didn’t stand out as much tonight. It will be interesting to see the results show tomorrow night.

Michael – Ain’t Goin’ Down Til The Sun Comes Up – Definitely can sing country, I mean, that’s why he’s on the show. But he doesn’t really have any stage presence.

Allison – Blame It On Your Heart – She can sing anything. And I’m glad she didn’t talk as much this week. She still needs to work on the way she acts in front of the camera when she’s not singing.

Kris – Make You Feel My Love – Very surprised by him this week. He made a very smart choice and sang better than ever. I think this guy knows exactly how to play the cards in this competition.

Lil Rounds – Independence Day – Country is not her thing at all and it showed in her performance. I agree with the judges that she could have chosen a song that she could have made more of her own. She wanted to stay true to country, but it just didn’t work for her. There’s no room for mistakes like that in this competition.

Adam – Ring of Fire -  I didn’t hate it, but I certainly didn’t love it. Interesting arrangement. I like that he chose a version that he felt more comfortable with and it was definitely dramatic, but it was too strange for such a mainstream competition.

Scott – Wild Angels – His performances are ok. The piano is definitely his saving grace. He really does need better songs that people will remember.

Alexis – Jolene – I had a lot of hope for her with this song, but it just wasn’t the rockin’ Alexis that we’ve all gotten to know. She definitely lost her edge with this one.

Danny – Jesus Take The Wheel – Why didn’t someone tell him not to wear that white jacket? I didn’t really like the way he started the song, but when he hit the chorus and let go, I loved it.

Anoop – You Are Always On My Mind – I was shocked to hear that he was going to be doing a ballad. He’s always been somewhat of a joker, but not this week. I was very impressed by his performance. It was honest, sincere, and vulnerable. Maybe he knows how to play his cards better than we think.

American Idol

Megan – Walkin’ After Midnight – She took that song and made it her style. It was the perfect choice for her and she looked incredible. She has a package that is marketable and it’s helping her in this competition. Her voice is different from any voice that’s been on Idol and it’s refreshing.

Matt – So Small – Great performance. I wasn’t sure about another guy doing a Carrie Underwood song, but Matt quickly took all of my doubts away when he sat in front of the piano and poured his heart out on those keys.

AMERICAN IDOL FINAL 11

American Idol

It’s down to the Final 11. Last night, Jorge and Jasmine were sent home. And, in a new twist, the judges have the chance to save one person from elimination this year. No one was spared last night.

This week, the contestants will be mentored by country legend, Randy Travis and the theme will be songs from the Grand Ole Opry.

Travis is set to perform ‘I Told You So’ with Carrie Underwood. Brad Paisley will also perform his new song ‘Then” from his upcoming album.

Michael should have an easy week…can’t wait to see what Anoop does!

AMERICAN IDOL RECAP

American Idol

For most of the night, I found myself bored by the performances. The Michael Jackson theme didn’t really appeal to me. No one can touch the King of Pop and what he’s done. The idols tried their best, but fell short.

The only one who came even remotely close was Adam Lambert with his over the top performance of ‘Black or White’. The audience and judges loved him because he had a packaged performance that blew everyone else out of the water. It’s obvious that he’s a lot more seasoned than the other contestants when it comes to putting on a show. However, I felt that he was a little too over the top, a little to ‘in your face’ and I wish he would have taken it down a notch and I would have been a little more comfortable watching him. But, what the hell, we all know he’s incredible and is going to sail through this competition.

Allison did an incredible job vocally with ‘Give In To Me’ and she, too, is a seasoned performer, which is amazing at such a young age. I just wish we didn’t have to hear her talk or see her facial expressions. They’re painful to look at. She’s awkward. And what was she thinking when she said, “I’m not, like, cutting myself or anything.” She needs some serious media coaching.

At this point, I agree that Lil Rounds is a great singer, but I don’t understand all of the hype about her. I can never seem to remember what song she sang. Apparently, it was ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’.

During Danny’s performance of ‘Pretty Young Thing’, I said out loud that he’s a young Michael McDonald and then Simon confirmed it. He’s got an adult contemporary voice and I don’t know if that will sell. Look at what’s happened to Taylor Hicks. America loved him on the show, but he never really had a hit song and no one bought his album. Will the same thing happen to Danny?

Megan sang ‘Rockin’ Robin’ and it was cute, too cute…in that annoyingly cute way.

Was Kris’ guitar even on during ‘Remember The Time’? All I heard was the strumming sound that was off beat with the band. It’s clear he’s much more comfortable performing with his guitar. He’s got a good voice, but not strong enough to win idol in my opinion. How long will his looks win him the young female votes? Simon was dead on when he said Kris should have waited longer before he mentioned that he was married. Marriage kinda of kills the fantasy of being with a rockstar. Don’t they teach that in PR 101?

I really like Alexis’ voice a lot, but that song, ‘Dirty Diana’, was way to over the top. She was shouting for most of the performance. And I think she really needs to get some extensions…

Jasmine Jasmine Jasmine…I have really liked her from the beginning, but the competition seems to be getting the best of her and she’s quickly becoming forgettable. This week she sang ‘I’ll Be There’ which wasn’t a very good choice for her. She’s so young, yet she keeps singing these big songs that make her seem older. I really hope she gets through this week so we can see her come back and really deliver a performance that everyone will talk about.

Anoop, who sang ‘Beat It’, is the guy this year that everyone gets a kick out of. It’s really hard to take him seriously. He’s a good natured guy and he can sing, but I don’t see him as a recording artist. And, as a side note, last week it was Matt and this week it was Anoop…quit shopping at H&M. I bought the same clothes and everyone’s going to think I’m copying you.

Michael sang ‘You Are Not Alone’. He’s an ok singer and he could record a country album, but he’s kind of plain and boring. He’s definitely got the blue collar vote.

Matt’s an extremely talented singer and an incredible piano player. He sang ‘Human Nature’ and really impressed the judges. He sounds a lot like Justin Timberlake and he’ll go far in the competition as long as he sticks to what he knows and does best.

Scott sang ‘Keep The Faith’. I love his story, his passion, and his drive. Do I think he’s the next American Idol? No. But, he’s certainly not giving up and that’s admirable. He’s giving the blind community a voice and no one can deny that. I’m am impressed every time he plays the piano,

And I completely forgot about Jorge when I was reviewing the performances. Is that a sign? He sang ‘Never Can Say Goodbye’. The judges weren’t really impressed at all. Seems he’s lost a bit of what drew us all to him.
