CARLOS SANTANA WANTS OBAMA TO LEGALIZE POT

While Santana was promoting his upcoming residency at Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, the famous guitarist, Carlos Santana, asked the president to really consider legalizing marijuana.

“Legalize marijuana and take all that money and invest it in teachers and in education,” Santana told the Huffington Post. “You will see a transformation in America.”

After recently traveling to Hawaii, Los Angeles, and New York, Rihanna has most recently made her way to Barbados. On Monday Chris Brown is going to be arraigned in connection with the alleged altercation between the two back in February.

Ronald Fenty told People.com, “She’s home.” She flew to Barbados to help celebrate her grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary.

“She is in good spirits, and she sounds great! She got in a couple hours ago. I will see her tomorrow.” Fenty also told US that he would probably be doing lunch while she’s home for the weekend. “Of course, I’m happy to have her home. Things are good with her. She is doing really, really well. She’s back to herself.”

U2′s “No Line On The Horizon” was the best-selling album by an international act in the U.S. for the first quarter of 2009, according to figures from Nielsen SoundScan.

This is U2′s 12th album and is #2 in overall sales this year. Taylor Swift’s sophomore album takes the #1 spot, with over 824,000 units sold this quarter.

BLACK EYED PEAS ON COURSE FOR FIRST HOT 100 NO. 1

The Black Eyed Peas’ new single, “Boom Boom Pow” will make a big boom on next week’s singles charts. Projected sales, released on March 31, will sell over 400,000 downloads in its first week, enabling a debut high atop the Hot Digital Songs chart.

That sum will likely propel the single to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving the act its first chart-topper. This week, “Boom” is at No. 39 on the Hot 100 based solely on its strong out-of-the-gate airplay. I am not a huge fan of the song yet, but it’s growing on me.

LAURYN HILL TO RETURN TO THE STAGE – AT THE MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL

Lauryn Hill is one of the 1,000 artists booked for the 42nd annual Montreux Jazz festival. The festival runs from July 3-18th. Per Reuters, Hill will play the Stravinski Auditorium on July 11th after a tribute to Nina Simone, which features Dianne Reeves, Lizz Wright and Angelique Kidjo.

Lauryn Hill’s most recent public appearance was in October 2008, when she was with Martha Stewart at booking signing in New Jersey. Prior to the book signing, the last time she was on stage was in August 2007, when she performed for over two hours in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood.

She has reportedly been working on a solo album since 2004. I really think she’s way too mysterious and really on the borderline of being a wacko. She needs to get her s**t together. She really does act as if she’s better than everyone. I just wish she would go back to the days when she was in Sister Act 2

MALAWI COURT REJECTS MADONNA ADOPTION REQUEST

In a surprise move, a judge on Friday rejected Madonna’s request to adopt a second child from Malawi even though the country’s child welfare minister had supported Madonna’s application to raise the 3-year-old girl.
Madonna’s lawyer, Alan Chinula, refused to discuss the ruling further, saying only that he had passed it on to the pop star, who was in the southern African nation but did not attend Friday’s court hearing. Madonna can appeal the decision to Malawi’s Supreme Court.

A judge who did not make the ruling but saw it and another lawyer present when the ruling was made said Madonna was rejected because of residency rules. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case.

Malawi adoption regulations require that prospective parents live in the southern African nation for at least 18 months.
The residency rule was waived in 2006, when Madonna was allowed to take her adopted son, David, to London before his adoption was finalized in 2008. It was not clear why Judge Esme Chombo ruled differently Friday. Another judge had handled Madonna’s previous adoption case.

When Madonna adopted David, she was still married to British film director Guy Ritchie. Their divorce became final earlier this year, and she was attempting to adopt 3-year-old Chifundo “Mercy” James as a single mother.
There was no immediate comment on the situation from Madonna’s spokeswoman in New York.
